Remembering Chadwick Boseman–A Silent Hero

In 2018 during Howard University’s 150th Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2018.

We lost a true hero yesterday.  When I heard the news, like everyone else, I was in shock,  I had to do a double take, then researched  to make sure I was reading it correctly.  Thinking immediately, ‘this can’t be true, he’s way too young to have passed away and of what? What happened?’

I read further and found that for much of the time I’d been a fan of his work, he’d been privately battling cancer.  What a selfless hero, not only on screen but also in private.  In 2018, he took time to visit terminally ill fans at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  An incredible role model, not only to the children he visited that day, but for many other children as well.

Although he played several historical figures, such as Jackie Robinson, in 42 (2013), James Brown in Get on Up (2014) and Thurgood Marshall in Marshall (2017), he will undoubtedly and most fondly be remembered for his role as T’Challa, The Black Panther (2018)

Chadwick Boseman, a silent hero and gone far too soon. He will truly be remembered with great fondness.  Rest well, T’Challa, “Wakanda Forever.”
